United Downpour Raceway!

Even Piskie Legend Bill Batten (167) doesn't like the wet
Well the Stoxblog tour rolled into the municipal site of United Downs Raceway at St Day. As we passed the familar racers stop of Kingsley Village/McDonalds, the heavens opened, and there was a deluge of a huge magnitude. Some familar cars with some unfamilar roof colours greeted us. Travelllers of note were James Rogers (544) and Jack Aldridge (921) returned to have another play, such was his enjoyment last time. So what about the racing I hear you cry.... well with a turnout in the mid 20's it wasn't a turn out to set the world alight but the racing was of the highest order, plenty of scraps, and an unlikely final winner....
Format was 2/3rds, Incaworth take note, great meeting, plenty of point scorers!

Flag falls on Chris Rowe (76)
Minus fag, Chris and Shannon
Heat 1 went off in wet conditions and it became clear soon enough that Chris Rowe (76) would take some catching. He pulled away and drove majestically through the puddles and skipped to a clear victory. He did look rather shy when approached by Stoxblog Babe Shannon for a congratulatory cuddle, he had a fag on and didn't want the health and safety police to get involved!

That's how close it was between Rowe and Moss in Ht 2.
A flying moss gathers a Shannon!
Heat 2 was some 2 races later, no further rain had took place and there was no existing water redistrubtion as the Siamese Bangers (very funny) were on after. The race started wet and got a drier line as it progressed. Chris Rowe (76) got away again from the pack and as the laps went on, Dan Moss (797) started to reel in the Plymouthian, laps went by and the Fowey Novice of the Year could quite move when necessary. The last bend came, and it was timed to perfection as Dan came out on top, and dad Jeremy, usually the victor when the heavens open stopped rain dancing!

Hoops shouts Smile your famous....
Heat 3 was raced in a near dry track. It was Dan Moss (797) who took up the early running again, and held on to 2nd, as everyone's favourite racing smurf, the downgraded Justin Fisher (315) took the win. Blue on green should never be seen!

The last time a Fish pounced on Moss was in an aquarium

Final time and again the heavens opened before the big one... the Yellows got away in a pack led by Chris Rowe (76) and Moss (797). The blues of Ashley Rundle (116) Paul Butcher (189) and Matt Westaway (835) led the way through the pack. A caution for the sticken car of Luke Thomas (916) and it looked liked Dan Moss was going to surrender his lead to the gaggle of blues behind him. However it wasn't to be the case, as he drove away again. Another yellow flag period followed when Bill Batten (167) collected fellow veteran Neil Truran (306) in the pit bend, but Moss held on again. A further 3rd yellow came out for Gary Stephens (374). It was 797, 116, and then 189, when the red's hit the self destruct button in the turnstile bend. That put pay to the chances of Neil Hooper (676) and Jack Aldridge (921), whereas now the recovered Dave Luscombe (642) had gotten amongst the leaders. It appeared that Rundle was going to strike, but the ex World Champ got in the way and gave Moss some respite. However resolute in defence of his place, Moss held on to take a maiden final win. Fellow TART, Paul Butcher crossed the line 2nd, and Ashley Rundle crossed the line in a spin to take 3rd.

Yellow for a day, its back to blue next week!

Now, can someone tell Jon Wyatt, the relatively new commentator at St Day, to turn the friggin music off when giving out the 1-10's. He makes the late Ted Lowe sound like Brian Goldsworthy!

GN time, dry track, some drivers took the CBA approach and loaded up, some took the CBA to change the setup and tyres approach also. As it dried, it became normal service, with Hooper taking the win.

A good days racing, just proves the right format can make all the difference..... Pics courtesy of Natalie Autumn Photography
