Warm up lap music.
The scene setter. Boogity Boogity, lets go racing. That bit of music that gets the adrenaline going. As a veritable wannabe Bruno Brookes and with years of mobile disco, student and hospital radio behind me, I knows what I likes music wise. However, at the tracks, it has been on the whole elevator musak, and now the musak is being pensioned off for Prog Rock? No, no, no....
For years the National Anthem of F2 was "Rinky Dink" by The Johnny Howard Band. Used primarily at Northampton, by the late Bev Greenhalf, it became the anthem for F2 up and down the country.
But the dink has had its day. Where as I am not advocating we should dubstep the dink, we do need something with a bit of oomph. Dave Goddard, in his new position as commentator, decided to run a poll on Allstox on what should be the new warm up lap music.

A cover of a Jean Michel Jaarre track!
So with a multi cultural line up that would befit any Eurovision Song Contest, the Goddard/Wood vote comprised of ex motorsport tunes from the 80's, Ibizian anthems, stadium rock and obscure haircuts.
Sadly for the midlanders for the vote took that of controversial Blue Peter cat naming ceremony.... the storming Sandstorm won the public vote, but it was the dirge of "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd that led the rolling lap...
Hey, Jho, leave Pink Floyd alone. To be honest, they have sold a lot of albums, but on the whole, they were an album band. Run Like Hell, takes an age to get going, and would need a Mendips amount of Restarts to get to the "good" bit. Frankly its dull beyond belief!
Speaking of dullness....Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Fanfare For The Common Man". Prog rock at its most dramatically awful. Over played, loved by people who long for the heavy days of the 70's, and remain steadfast to change. In the opening, very lively and grabs the attention but at the end, very dull and repitive.Kind of suitable for F1. Very apt in fact!
So...... what do you suggest in alternative Mr Jho..... well there are numerous tracks. The excellent Rob Dougan provides a fair few choices of mine. If you've watched a Matrix film, you'll know him, his are the moody strings, and "Speed Me Towards Death" is famed for being on Top Gear. If like me, you have the F1 2010 game for your game console, you'll be familar of tune - Ian Brown's F.E.A.R - now this is awesome tension building music. Brainbug's "Nightmare" and Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" both do the same in a clubby style.
But for me, there is only one tune that I think can do a warm up lap justice.
The epic Knights of Cydonia by Muse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3Yc3HhSl1Q
Just over the top, brillant guitar riff, and the right amount of pace for when the green flag drops....
...no one's gonna take me alive!
So an appeal to the comm boxes of the land. Time to drop the Dink, but replace with something that doesn't stink.
