Told you it wasn't all about me despite it being J-ho's Stox Blog. Guest bloggers will be making regular appearances, including some persons yet unknown but beknown to themselves. First up, it's my old china plate and verbal sparring partner in the aniceint martial art of keyboard ninjery during the Great BSCDA Strike of Red Jeff and his pals. Since leaving the confederancy, Wrighty has seen the light....
Sitting in the middle of a crowded display stand, at first it looked a little incongruous although it didn't look out of place as such, Dave Polley's new car for 2011 wasn't so much unveiled as it was just plonked into its place, and yet the ramifications of its appearance are profound, in the same way that something grabs you when you see your first love walking arm-in-arm with their new 'beau' down the street or perhaps (depending which side of F2s late great feud you were aligned to) seeing the old school bully starting again at a new site....not 'big man on campus*' any more now, but just another of the newbies......
I was surprised by the lack of hoop-la in all honesty.....George Polley is still a name that is spoken amongst the rod fraternity with a respectful hushed tone, especially by those who were lucky enough to see 'the driver' at his finest, a world-beater in a sport that was at it's height, a man who had crossed the boundary to become almost a household name outside of the 'dark arts' of oval racing and yet, even as he has inherited both the colour scheme (gold over purple of course) and the iconic number 306 (so much better than the 138 that featured on the borrwed Hunn Tigra in the autumn), the 'showbiz' was....well, it was underwhelming.
What stands all sports out as much as their present-day action is their heritage....the history and the characters that made them what they are today.....George was a legend and Dave was also for F2, and although i was personally never a fan i can appreciate that there's a void in F2 now that may need filling.
As for the ex-bully? Oh, when i met ours again he was as nice as ninepence....maybe it was all front....we'll soon see eh *winks*
Wrighty
Thanks Wrighty, funny that, I always thought that the ginger kid with glasses was always the one bullied. Seriously, who else is going to spend a day practicing a big hit? Or be mad enough to do 100 meetings? Like him or loath him Polley will be missed. Looking forward to see in your next blog whether your old school bully gave you the Armitage sponsered headwash and rinse!
